There is an exhibition on, called Box’d, in the Original Print Gallery in Temple Bar, which is the one with the big plate glass window opposite The Temple Bar Souvenir Shop.
Grainne Dowling, whose work you can see on Tuppenceworth here, along with lots of other national and international artists, will have work on show.
The idea is that they have all contributed a work, which is to fit in a CD jewel box. And they’re all available at the same price -€50. It works like a lucky dip, as you have to choose the pieces you like, and you only find out who the artist is after you’ve bought it. The artists have contributed the pieces to raise money for a machine to stop them choking and dying amongst the chemicals in the studio upstairs. So really, you’re not just getting a good deal. You could be saving all Ireland’s future art.
And, to be fair, at that price you really couldn’t go wrong. The shop across the road probably sells sweat shirts to stag parties for more than that. Hurry while stocks last, as they say at all the great Galleries of the world.
