Mr. Potato suffered an unhappy experience when eating in Brasserie Sixty6 on Georges’ Street in Dublin.
This is around the corner from my office, and I have eaten here quite a few times since it opened. It has a sense of space when you go in, despite being really just a very long corridor.
The food is pretty good- roast chicken, steak, fish and pasta. Utterly middle of the road, but generally well cooked, if a little too fond of serving the various bits in lots of little dishes.
This clutter is a problem because the tables are too small, and much too close together for real comfort. You are always aware of the person next to you listening to your tedious conversation on flange widgets. A table for four would seat three, ideally.
However, I don’t think I’ll be going back. Not merely because of Mr. Potato’s tale of woe, but because it confirmed, in a more extreme way, my own impression of the attitude shown to customers.
You’re to be tolerated only as long as you still have another course to order. After that, get out and give them back their elbows-have-to-be-tucked-in tables so they can seat more consumers.
For example, despite asking for coffee at the end of the meal after the dessert, it has appeared more than once before the dessert. As a result you either let it sit there to cool while you wait, or drink it while you’re waiting and either order another or just push off when you’re done.
Either way, thanks but no thanks.

Sorry to hear you didnt enjoy your experience at Sixty6. I was there the other night with four of my friends andd our table was looked after by two very friendly waiters. The staff were run off thier feet but thier customer service could not be faulted. It seems to be a very popular place. We had a lovely meal at a round talbe in a little booth down the back. Our experience was a good one, not rushed, yummy food and really good wine. Well done sixty 6 cant wait to come back.

I would love to know what the IP address of the above post was. Planetpotato has been invaded by “Daisys” and “Dons” all posting positive reviews from the same IP address.
To confirm: The above positive comment did come from the same IP as positive commenters
Name: daisy
IP: 213.190.144.91
and

on planet potato.
I don’t like spam here. But I’ve left it in as part of the show. Go to Mr. Potato’s blog if you’d like to see the full lunacy played out.
I’ll only add that if I wanted to counteract poor reviews on the internet I would try to address the problems identified, rather than denying the experience of unsatisfied customers.
[…] Brasserie 66: This one was given a new lease of life when comments were left from a number of people with the same IP address saying how nice they found it. Now there is a surge of visitors to the page every weekend- presumably people looking for somewhere to nice to eat. Sheries, Abbey St.: Viewed 1260 times in the month of March alone. I think it is my lovely prose and beautiful pictures. Buying the Irish Times: Never has the webfeed seen such a spike in traffic. The News You Want: Related to above. Readers really want Irish Times related wittering, it seems. Tesco.com sucks, as they say: Accidentally seems to have become a place for UK and Ireland customers and staff to grumble about failures in training and delivery. […]
Just had another positive review from someone who eats there regularly and err posts from New York.
I was looking for the number from Sixty 6 to book a table tonight and came across this posting. Yes, the seating is a bit too crowded for my liking and I don’t know if I like hearing other peoples private conversation (depends on how boring/interesting they are) but the food was good and I didn’t feel like I was being rushed all that much. I’ll definitely be returning but will watch out for seating and make sure I don’t get squashed near the doorway.
February 2005 – Brasserie Sixty6.
This place provided me with possibly the worst dining experience ever. Having made a reservation for a Friday night @ 9:30pm (the only time available) we were told our table wasn’t ready when we arrived and were to wait in the ‘Wine Bar’. After 40 minutes of desperate efforts to order a bottle of wine we secured one and stood in the overcrowded bar whilst proactively checking on the availability of our table at every opportunity. Eventually, without an apology we were told our table was ready and the waitress lead the way in to the restaurant without helping us with coats, bags, wine or glasses. Whilst trying to manage all this we lost sight of her and she simply disappeared! We weren’t sure which eagerly awaited table was ours so my friend took the initiative and picked an empty table and decided it must be for us. The food itself (it was now close to 11:00pm) was mediocre and forgettable and the service was memorable only for the sheer lack of interest on behalf of the staff. The person who served us only showed some animation when it came to trying to hard sell us a second bottle of wine, which we declined (several times!). I could tell at the time there was no point complaining about any aspect of the experience as this was one of Dublin’s ‘new’ restaurants and they were too ‘popular’ to care. I eagerly await its timely closure and replacement with a kebab shop.
mr potatohead,
you seemed to be infactuated with ripping this place a new “A” hole. IP address this….IP address that, for all we know your full of it. Whats the reason?? Maybe YOU got rejected by the bartender?? or you own one of the nearby restaurants?? (envious??) You really have seemed to post on many websites about sixty 6 so maybe one of the above is true.
Yes some of the reviews have been true (cramped & noisy) but the food wasnt as bad as Potato had written. We actually had a great time and there were a few dishes we didnt get a chance to try(like the bone marrow), so we will be returning. I did find a positive write up on sixty 6 and it was from food & wine. I would say a bit more creditable than POTato head http://foodandwine.net/reviews/414.htm
Potatoe guy is right, tables are way too small & close together. Got embarassed at pauses in our own conversation as we were forced to overhear tables either side of us. Waiters couldnt care less…
Having said that the food was quite good.
