Number Plate Recognition in the Irish Times Originally uploaded by Editor_Tupp. For those who didn't spot it, this article in yesterday's Motoring supplement in the Irish Times by Daniel Attwood confirms that plans for an automatic vehical number plate recognition system are already being implemented. The Local Authority, even in the little they are reported as saying here, contradict themselves.

A comment box discussion here got me thinking today about the phenomenon of “watch??? blogs, set up expressly to have a go at other blogs. I’m only aware of a few of them, (most obviously FI Fie Foe Fum, devoted to picking over the works of the Freedom Institute, and to which I contribute) but there’s a good chance that there are thousands of them out there.

For those who might be interested, there is a talk on "Government and Privacy in the Digital Age" in Trinity College tonight. Suw Charman, Executive Director of the UK's Open Rights Group will be giving the keynote and TJ McIntyre of Digital Rights Ireland will be responding. It's chaired by Dr Eoin O'Dell of Trinity's Law Faculty as part of the Dublin Legal Workshop series of talks.
It was always a sure thing, but the Data Retention Directive finished its passage into law by being given the nod yesterday by the Council of Ministers. Sheries Now, a happy eating recommendation. Sheries has been serving dinners opposite Wynne's hotel since trilobite was on the menu. Until its recent refurbishment, it was the only place in Dublin you could get an unironic burger with pineapple slice.

A slight cold which I picked up while gallivanting on a rugby weekend in Paris has left me at home recuperating, primarily by way of watching the Winter Olympics and Buffy re-runs, while eating airport-bought Fois Gras and Chocolate. Ah, the decadence.
