I'm standing in for Karlin on the Right Hook's Technology slot next Monday. I thought I'd throw out an invite- if anyone thinks there's something I ought to cover or introduce to George's 80,000 or so listeners, leave a message. Make sure that a non-technical Classics graduate such as myself can understand it.
The following is taken from my notebook. It was written on the 3rd January this year, as I tried to make a list of problems to solve or salve. I haven't changed any of it in the light of hindsight.
With thanks to the Cedar Lounge Revolution, the EU Observer has the news that the European Commission has a plan to fund political foundations to "support "European seminars" and serve as a "framework for national think tanks, political foundations and academics to work together at [the] European level," says a preliminary paper on the issue.

Of the three blogs written by political correspondents of Irish papers, Harry McGee’s Inside Politics is my favourite. He gives the sense of going a little deeper than he does in his newspaper pieces, which is surely the whole point of journalist’s blogs.
When an electorate who claimed to have been at the point of revolt over the state of the health service can proceed to return the main government party with an increased vote, you have to wonder if people aren’t completely full of crap when they talk about their political views and intentions.

Well, Eoin's call on RTE to let us use the footage of the leader's debates has been turned down. The reason given?"The view has been taken that it would not be prudent for RTÉ to waive its rights to the migration of the debates to other sites. "Use of the passive voice, (the functionary's friend), and a reference to purdence, but no real explanation of why it might be imprudent.
I've written before about the problem of discussing public affairs in videos when you can't legitimately reuse portions of the RTE news- the primary source for any current affairs videos.
