Why I’m not a Progressive
I struggled with the title for this post. What I really wanted to call it was “You are not a Progressive”. I’ve compromised on this impulse to tell people that their beliefs are just wrong.

For a couple of centuries, New York City was politically dominated by the Democratic Party machine known as “Tammany Hall”. All-powerful and frankly corrupt, Tammany was the machine through which immigrants, particularly the Irish, rose through the ranks of New York politics. You could almost call it the Fianna Fáil of old New York.
You know how it is. You get up every morning, wanting to make a difference. You slog through day after day, scanning the horizon for any sign- any clue- that your work is having an effect.
It is said that the mark of a gentleman is that when proved wrong he will acknowledge his error, but when proved right will never point it out. I am no gentleman. If you're working in PR, an election can mean a shower of extra work- if you can persuade a politician or political party that you have a particular insight. Bear this in mind when you throw your eye over "It's the economy stupid", a post from PR firm Edelman (they of the questionable PR). The article begins by telling us that the economy has been taken for granted by the electorate.
